About this book

A Guide to the I Ching, first published in 1980, was a guide to the Wilhelm/Baynes classic translation of the I Ching. It has now become a classic in its own right. This first psychological interpretation of the I Ching has been recognized until now by teachers and longtime students of the Wilhelm/Baynes translation, as indispensable to its understanding and use. Developed from notes taken over many years, the book mirrors the reader’s true inner feelings, and helps him to bring his life and fate into harmony with the Tao — the way of the Universe.

Some reviews from readers on amazon.com:

"An excellent guide to the I Ching"

By a customer on May 27, 1998

"This book is an outstanding place to begin work with the I Ching"

"Ms. Anthony has obviously used the I Ching in her life"

By a customer on July 15, 1998

… "and in this book shares its' usefulness, and her love for, and insight into, the meanings. Also, she uses the Wilhelm/Baynes translation with which so many of us are familiar and writes this as a "guide" to the use of that. Her paraphrases are exquisite in their ability to simplify for us, the more literate translations."

"Always a favorite"

By Lauralynn on September 27, 2014

… "I have my own copy that I have used weekly most of my adult life, and have now purchased this same book as a gift of guidance and wisdom for someone else. This version of the I Ching has gently guided me into maturity and peace through the tribulations and heartaches of life. I highly recommend it".

"A Wonderful Guide to Centeredness"

By Belissima on February 25, 2015

"Love this version of the I Ching. It’s like a guide on how to keep your ego in check and how to react to others’ egos by continuing to keep your ego in check. It’s a great study and meditation device."

"Great Life Lessons"

By S. Halvorsen on October 2, 2014

"I personally don’t use this book as a forecaster of my life but read each chapter as a philosophical lesson. It’s a great read for those seeking wisdom and a deeper understanding of how to face life’s difficulties."

"First impressions: Carol Anthony’s I Ching"

By Ima Jazzoid on February 4, 2013

"I've been using the Carol Anthony version of the I Ching on and off for years, and have read and journaled daily on it for nearly a straight year now. I note some here critique her as being too dour or opinionated, and initially I would have agreed with them somewhat. As I have persevered on the Path she points to, I no longer agree with that view. Instead, I am simply grateful for the reliable wisdom offered for the taking and consider this book a most treasured gift to my growth and that of those with whom I am connected. It takes awhile with these teachings to finally "get it," and I feel gratitude and freedom for not giving up even when it's been difficult and things didn't seem to jibe. Along with using this book, it is best to do I Ching meditation daily as described by Ms. Anthony. You may find softer footing on the Path if you do. Good wishes to all."

"Access to Wisdom"

By Carol S. Bean on August 21, 2015

"Tender Heart of Joy: Tools for Reclaiming Your Full Measure of Delight. This was probably one of the most useful books I've encountered in my life journey. I stumbled across a copy of this book years ago and you should see it now: inside cover pages are filled with notes, yellow highlights grace nearly every page, multiple bookmarks sticking out. This book is not a fortune telling device--it is a book that leads you toward the deeper meaning in the issues that face us everyday. When I was confused, this book would help me find clarity. It faithfully and uncompromisingly points the way to higher levels of awareness and opens the door to our own (inner) access to wisdom."

"If this book could sing, the soul itself would listen."

"A really valuable book for an I Ching collection"

By Michael Anthony on November 21, 2010

"I received this book as a gift and it has quickly become one of the best of my collection, and a really valuable resource in addition to the Wilhelm and R.L. Wing books.

I cannot recommend it highly enough for a student of the I Ching who values a non-traditional interpretation and an obviously well-thought out commentary."

"My favorite"

By eyesaregreen on January 17, 2014

"The best investment I made. I reference this book often. It has helped me through some tough situations in my life."
